Kyle, my husband, had a hot dog, and I had a soft pretzel due to the fact that it was our first stop on the way to Grand Rapids and we were both starving. The food choices are limited, and nothing fancy. The Cellar, located in nearby Sparta, was a much larger brewery with not as many patrons, no children in sight, and had the smell of old spilled beer in the air as soon as you step out of your vehicle. Very much unlike our previous stop on the way to Grand Rapids.

The walls are lined with Detroit Tigers baseball nostalgia, the staff are all “hipsters”, while still managing to be quaint and family-friendly. The atmosphere here feels very much like Michigan to me. I’m surprised that I even took a photo before I devoured this delicious food. The Mitten serves mainly pizza and stromboli, but what they lacked in food options they made up for in Italian perfection. I couldn’t drink it fast enough, it was just that good. Personally, I’m a hard cider fan, and The Mitten offered a cherry hard cider that was amazing. If you’re not a beer snob (like me) you can sample the brews and learn what you like and what you don’t.

A word to the not-so-wise, craft beer has a higher percentage of alcohol than your big beer brands. It’s amazing how much actually goes into creating a unique, flavor-filled beer. This weekend my husband and I decided to visit a few and if you’re ever in the area, it’s a great way to spend your day… especially if you or the person you’re with loves craft beer as much as my husband does! That being said, brewing beer is an art form. While there are so many places to explore in this city, breweries seem to be popping up all over.
